On the morning of March 22, 2016, Daryl Hebert collapsed in his apartment in Boston, suffering multiple stroke-like episodes. He wasn't found for several hours, resulting in inadequate oxygen supply getting to his brain. Daryl has left hemisphere brain damage and is in the midst of the fight of his life.
His longtime partner, Mary Eagan, lives in Northern Michigan and can currently visit her love only about once a month. Flights and hotel accommodations are expensive, especially from Northern Michigan, and the expense of traveling is becoming a real hardship.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards helping Mary travel to Massachusetts once a month to visit, advocate, and support Daryl, who is currently in a skilled care facility for neurorehabilitation.
Daryl and Mary have been a couple for six years and, just days before his collapse, Daryl revealed to a dear friend he was getting ready to propose to Mary. Daryl lights up when he sees Mary's face during FaceTime sessions and his room is filled with pictures of the couple in happier times. Their love is dear -- the kind that radiates even now through muted communication and hundreds of miles of distance.
This fundraiser is to provide Mary with the support she genuinely needs, both financially and emotionally, to be by Daryl's side to motivate, soothe, and assist Daryl as he fights for a meaningful recovery.
