Đi Chơi: A Story of Legacy & Identity

Donación protegida
Hi, my name is Tina Tang, and I’m a trans Vietnamese American filmmaker from Queens, NY. I’m raising funds to finish a documentary about my 99-year-old grandfather, a man who lived through war, migration, and deep loss (the love of his life and his second child), and who helped shape the person I’m becoming as both a grandchild and a filmmaker.

This film is about memory, family, and quiet transformation. Despite being in debt, I’ve already put over $10,000 on the line to make this film. Buying gear, traveling to film him, and beginning the editing process. Now I’m asking for your help to continue: to bring my grandfather back to Vietnam and Paris, digitize decades of our family’s archives, and hire an editor, DP, and line producer so this story can live on with the care it deserves.

Updated longline (7/15): A closeted trans filmmaker living at home begins documenting her 99-year-old Vietnamese grandfather as he starts slipping between past and present, right as she begins her own gender transition. As they move through this time together, she uncovers buried identities, inherited grief, and the quiet work of caretaking. Đi Chơi ("go out and play") is a poetic film about memory, gender, and the kind of love that gets relearned across three generations of the Vietnamese diaspora.
