After 6 long and painful years of a range of different chemotherapies for Ovarian Cancer I have been told by my oncologist that chemo is no longer an option for me. I have now been off chemo for 3 months and there were semi pending cancer trials where I may or may not be a successful candidate. Unfortunately, I was not a case that they would approve and so that road has come to an end. It was a very difficult waiting game made more difficult by the result.
I have wonderful nurses who come to see me daily for medical treatment and they can see that my tumors, which have matastisized around my abdomen, are still growing.
Like a lot of people, this was not a part of our life plan and we are definitely not cashed up retirees so this is where I need to humble myself. This will be our last chance to see a positive result.
My oncologist has suggested an immunotherapy drug also an anti cancer drug, called "Pembrolizumab" or more common name is "Keytruda". This drug works with your immune system to help fight cancer cells. It has been successful on Melanoma patients so this still really is just a trial on Ovarian Cancer patients but has shown some success.
It is unfortunately not something which Is supported or funded by the government and so the burden of the cost falls to us. We are of course able to fund a part of the treatment but like most cancer sufferers, this was not a part of our life plan and so the funds which are needed to pay for the medication we just do not have. Again, this is where I humble myself and sincerely ask for help.
