Destination Imagination Global Fund

This year, our group of 5th, 6th and 7th graders entered into a new kind of competition. One they had never attempted before, and, honestly, didn't fully understand. This competition is Destination Imagination - group, competitive, problem solving for students from elementary school through college.  After reading through the 5 options of challenges to solve, they chose Engineering. They would have to design and build 2 or more free standing structures out of ONLY balsa wood and glue that would hold as much weight as possible (think HUNDREDS of pounds). Then they had to write a skit involving an international problem and how their stuctures were involved in the solution to the problem. And here's the kicker: NO ONE outside their team could contribute to the solution in ANY way...including adults! No parents, no team managers or coaches, no siblings or friends could give help or suggestions or the team would be disqualified from the competition. They studied and learned, worked and laughed, and came up with a unique and entertaining solution.

On Saturday, April 8th, our first year DI team from Franklin Classical School was overwhelmed with excitement when we won 1st in State for the Middle Level Engineering Challenge!

Now, with an invitation to Global Finals in Knoxville, we have a chance to meet and compete with teams from all over the world! (15 countries will be represented) In order to go, we have to raise $6,750 with only 42 days left until the competition. That amount covers registration fees, housing, meals, and transportation plus all event costs. We need your help to get us there!
