Help support Dax’s second liver transplant

Hello to anyone reading this! I have now received my second liver transplant!

Since my first transplant in 2021, I was having ongoing bile duct complications. Over time they all started developing strictures and closing up. Stents were placed, multiple PTC biliary drains inserted and upsized. Unfortunately no luck was had as this continued to progress, causing many hospital stays and recurring infections along the way. At this stage I’ve been admitted 9 times with infections in the past year from my biliary drain, which is a lot. The only solution left is another full liver transplant.

Second transplants are typically higher risk, due to all the heavy scar tissue built up from the first transplant. Getting through all the tough scar tissue and things being more stuck together comes with a higher risk of heavier bleeding. A blood transfusion is usually required during and after a transplant surgery.

Receiving a transplant comes with a requirement of staying in Vancouver close to the hospital for 3 months for post-surgery follow ups, tests and doctor visits to make sure things are going well. This has to happen before they’ll feel comfortable sending me back home to Victoria. 

During this required stay in Vancouver for 3 months, I’ll have to cover rent, bills, travel costs and food in Vancouver while also paying for rent and bills at home in Victoria at the same time.
