Dawne's service dog, Juniper, passed away late 2018.
Dawne urgently needs a medical service dog to survive!
Only by having a replacement for Juniper, as soon as possible, can Dawne continue on. Dawne now has a puppy, Sobu, 9 weeks old, in training.
Your help is needed urgently. Please Donate!
HELP RESTORE DAWNE’S ability to care for herself at home, and freedom to join her community and work. I am an optimistic, creative, problem solver and a mobility service dog FREEDOM TEAM for 25 years as a school educator. I have been a businesswoman who volunteered countless hours in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in recreation, education and leadership training. I have some speech, but must use sign language for all interviews.
SERVICE DOG PUPPY – “SOBU”
I need a tall mobility service dog to enable me any walking and wheeling (wheelchair). SOBU, meaning heart-dog, is my mobility puppy born at Kidjuuk Kennels, Sherbrooke QC, began his training at birth. Here Sobu, 7 weeks, is playing with a child. Sobu is being properly socialized and will have basic training, specifically for me, by Jocelyne Bergeron. I will receive Sobu at 1 year old, and I will custom train with Sobu the specific mobility dog skills, during year 2. We will become a joyful and efficient working FREEDOM TEAM.
WHAT HAPPENED
I have been independent and mobile all my life, even with my dyskinetic cerebral palsy(CP). I have trained and paid completely for my 5 Service Dogs. Until, suddenly, I and my mobility dog Juniper were severely injured when rear-ended in a car accident, 2009. The car injuries caused the loss of my job and for us to be isolated at home for 10 years. I am very thankful to receive some provincial home care, food bank, and drinking water, but the isolation is disheartening.
I went into debt trying to get a proper medical service dog, which included applying to six organizations and many private trainers. Because Juniper could not take me in public anymore, I did not get proper medical care for my car accident injuries.
Now, Juniper my precious Mobility Dog has DIED after 10 years of keeping me alive at home. So, I am forced to use railings and ropes to pull myself around my cottage and yard causing more injuries. Currently, I am trying to walk with a tall, young, shy rescue dog, who is saving my life at home UNTIL SOBU ARRIVES.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW
Dawne requires physiotherapy continuously throughout the day, by walking with a proper postural mobility service dog, to manage the debilitating effects of the car accident injuries, on her dyskinetic cerebral palsy. Dawne cannot use any other mobility aid. Even to use her wheelchair, she needs a mobility dog’s assistance.
Dawne needs Sobu’s medical mobility dog assistance to recover and to have any quality-of-life to care for herself, join her community and work. The Sobu FREEDOM TEAM, will restore Dawne’s abilities to be independent again and have the freedom to choose.
