On April 1, 2024 one of our WTI technicians, Dave New, was hurt in a freak accident while at work. A large section of wall came down on top of him resulting in a crushed pelvis and fractured lower spine. On Tuesday April 2, he underwent surgery to fix his pelvis. After surgery it was determined he would need one more surgery on his pelvis and spine to stabilize them and he would be non-weight bearing for 6-12 weeks.

On Saturday April 6 a delayed injury was discovered by one of his nurses. She knew there was something wrong and pushed the doctors to get a CT scan that evening. There had been bile leaking into his abdomen, which resulted in him developing compartment syndrome and being rushed to emergency surgery where they removed a small portion of his small bowel.

He became unstable during surgery and the surgical team temporarily closed and sent him to the ICU for roughly 48 hours on life support to get stronger. Around 1am Monday morning he was taken back to surgery where the surgical team was able to finish and close.

His final pelvic and spinal stabilization surgery is scheduled for Wednesday April 16. After surgery is complete he will be transferred to an inpatient rehab facility to learn how to use his body without his legs until he is healed enough to begin rehab to walk again.

Dave is a wonderful father to two very energetic little boys that he homeschools with his wife. He has fought to live to be able to come home to his family when others did not think he would survive. He has felt every prayer, good vibes and well wishes that have been sent his way and swears that is part of the reason he is still alive today.
