After an already difficult year, the Backer family was forced to suddenly say goodbye to their rock, David Backer, on December 21, 2020. Dave played a pivotal role in so many lives as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, boss, and friend. Dave would happily go to the ends of the earth for others, including people he barely knew or never met. He was truly one of those genuine people that you only meet once in a lifetime. We will miss our "Captain Dave" forever and I personally feel so lucky for having known him through being best friends with his daughter Mara.
As Mara and Dave's wife Mary begin planning arrangements, I ask that we all help them out financially by contributing whatever we can in memory of Dave. With Christmas around the corner, this is an extremely painful and costly process. Mary has been struggling with her health as well, and Dave was the breadwinner for their family. There are also significant medical bills that will need to be paid. We can never replace what's been taken from them, but hopefully we can lighten the load at least a tiny bit.
