To Dakota’s Village:
The White family is in need of our love, help, and support during the most difficult journey of their lives. It is with a heavy heart that I share this terribly sad news. Sweet baby Dakota (who recently turned 1) has been admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) because her kidneys have failed. She couldn’t need her village more right now.
Dakota is currently on dialysis, with a breathing tube, while the doctors are trying to repair a collapsed lung. She is sedated and has had a feeding tube for the past week. She will need a kidney transplant down the road. This beautiful, sweet, and playful girl really needs our help.
Short-term goals: Doctors are looking to stabilize Dakota so that she can breathe on her own, once again. Down the road, she will need to undergo multiple invasive medical treatments and procedures, including home dialysis and having a different type of stint put in. Once she reaches the weight of 22 pounds (she currently weighs 14 pounds), the family will start to look for a kidney match. Unfortunately, Dakota will need multiple transplants throughout her lifetime, as transplanted kidneys have a lifespan of 15 years.
As of 01/21, doctors are looking to stabilize Dakota. Once she is stable and breathing on her own, the family can (hopefully) check-out of PICU and return home. Home dialysis and the search for a kidney are in their future. Dakota is responding well to dialysis in PICU, but it has been a slow process with bumps along the way. Jen and Taylor have been positive, strong, and fierce advocates for their baby girl.
Dakota is a warrior and Jen and Taylor have been such responsive and loving parents. They have been by Dakota’s side all day, each day, reading her stories and and talking to her. Taylor has been playing songs on his guitar- which he did while she was in the womb. Taylor and Jen haven’t been able to hold their baby girl and see her beautiful eyes since this has all happened. This couldn’t be more crushing.
I have started this page because Taylor and Jen are some of the best people that I know. They are such warm, generous, and thoughtful humans- completely selfless. I know for a fact (as they once showed up for me) that Jen and Taylor would do this for any one of their friends. And baby Dakota— she has the sweetest disposition and a smile that can light up a room. If anyone deserves help in this world, it is this family.

Medical care is expensive and I would like to shield Jen and Taylor from having to go on this journey alone. Jen has had to take a step back from work and the road ahead will be long, painful, and difficult for the family. It would be beneficial to have a medical “nest egg” for Dakota, so that she can receive the best treatment possible throughout her life. Jen and Taylor will need to focus on her care; and we can help them from feeling as much financial pressure by contributing to this fund.
If you can donate anything- 5 dollars- it will help tremendously. The family will be forever grateful.

They are not trying to raise money, nor did they decide to create this account. In order to respect their privacy, please don’t post this on any social media or spread the word. All donations will be put into a fund for Dakota and will only be used when needed. Funds will be passed on in order to cover her future medical needs when and if Jen and Taylor are unable to support her. Any extra funds will be donated to either Rady’s Children’s hospital or a kidney foundation.
