FUNDRAISER FOR CURRENT GALLERY

Donation protected
We are opening CURRENTa (con)temporary site for testing, a place for research and emerging practice.

We are now trying to raise funds with all profits reinvested in the operation of the gallery (rent, artist fees, residency costs). This gofundme is for all of you that cannot attend the opening night and fundraiser on Friday the 22nd but also for all of you that want to support this journey for more art and creative practice that is equitable.

CURRENT is a creative and artist-run place. We welcome and encourage contemporary practice to occur in the space. Contemporary practice is a softer definition of creative and artistic creation that welcomes people from all kinds of disciplines. We want to emphasise that institutional recognition isn’t what makes great art and contemporary praxis.

CURRENT aims to host a range of programmes that are experimental, innovative, test new ideas, extend existing artistic practices and engage with contemporary artistic discourse. We want to contribute and be part of the contemporary fabric in Walyalup, WA and beyond.
CURRENT is a site for creative practice: exhibitions, artist residencies, performances and projects. CURRENT aims to be a place for engagement, community building and collective narratives and change.
CURRENT is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led space.
CURRENT will pay artists fees for its artistic programming.
CURRENT will run ongoing programming open to the community.
CURRENT rents its space from Enkel Collective Co-Operative.

The two people behind this gallery at the moment are Nina Juniper and Will Ek Uvelius. We are both part of the contemporary and creative fabric in Walyalup and WA but something is missing. This is why we are doing it in our own words.

Will:
I like the idea of creating a ‘place’ that allows for experimentation and contemporary practice. I want more collective thought and practice to exist here in Walyalup and WA, and galleries that act as supporters of the existing and future art scene. I want people to feel like this is a place that they want to create, test and explore things in.

Nina:
I want to help create a new space for the community, a space that artists from all creative fields can use — a project space, testing ground, and exhibition space that is readily available and accessible to emerging and early-career artists. I am passionate about building, supporting and contributing to the arts community here in Walyalup and in Western Australia more broadly.
