One Breath and One Beat at a Time

Once upon a time a little sister was born. From the moment she came into the world, we were told to be careful with her. We couldn't make her cry or get her in trouble and we HAD to be careful of the zipper- like scar that went from her throat to her belly button. We watched when she turned blue and we worried when she got sick. We lived a life with Tetrology of Fallot.
That little sister grew up to be a beautiful and kind woman. She has endured more than anyone I know...multiple heart surgeries, a defibrillator getting placed, her breath getting stolen from Pulmonary Hypertension (a totally separate and life-threatening diagnosis), a central line being inserted into her body to directly pump medication into her heart and endless other painful procedures. She is brave and strong and she inspires me.
My little sister is now sick enough that she needs a heart and lung transplant. She has packed up her things, quit her job in Wyoming and put her personal life on hold so that she can spend the six months and possibly longer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN while she waits for organs.
This is an uncertain time for many reasons. Her husband has a good job, but they have relied on her income as well as his. Hospital stays are extremely expensive, and they have very high medical and pharmaceutical deductibles. She doesn't qualify for Medicare disability because she chose to work through her illness and so hadn't started the two-year wait for disability insurance until last week.
If you feel moved to donate THANK YOU, and please know that the funds will help her husband, Mikey, and the rest of her family get to be with her periodically while she waits. They will help ease the burden of a loss of income. They will pay for the exorbitant medical bills that have already been incurred and will continue to be incurred.
If you visit this site just for news and are unable to donate, we are thankful you're here! Knowing we're in your thoughts will help the lonely hours as we wait for new heart and lungs.
And until then...we'll keep on...One Breath and One Beat at a Time!
~Nicole (a thankful big sister)
