My name is Koray Köse and I'm deeply connected to the catastrophe that occurred last night.
All of us have been saddened by the news of the terrible earthquake that struck Gaziantep and its neighboring cities, with a magnitude of 7.8 on February 6th at 4:17 am local time. The earthquake was felt by at least ten surrounding cities with approximately 23 million people affected.
I am heartbroken and shocked to see the news coming in and to hear of the loss of life due to the earthquake in Türkiye. When they went to bed, the world was a different place for them.
My heartfelt condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones and prayers for all those who are injured, waiting for rescue and in need of help.
The weather conditions, snow and cold make search and rescue not only difficult but pushes the limit of what can be done into a very short timeframe of survival.
Almost 2,000 buildings (counting) have collapsed with tens of aftershocks that could be registered in Japan. Some risk platforms calculate the potential loss of life into the thousands and make this event have the potential to be worse than the earthquake that hit Türkiye the 17th of August, 1999 - one that I remember very well and many lost family, relatives and friends, including me.
A 4th level of emergency was declared almost immediately asking for international help. Thank you to all that are acting now and in the near future. This disaster stands above politics - please remember - whatever your position is.
My company will match 100% up to 5,000$ in this effort. I am planning to donate and distribute the full amount once we reach the goal or within one week - whatever happens prior.
I need to collect and donate it directly and submit the donation receipt through my company's charity work systems to receive an equal amount of up to 5,000$. This means I need to collect first and then run the process through the two donations to get the match. Hence, the donation isn't direct to charity but through my account and then fully distributed to the charity: TURKISH PHILANTHROPY FUNDS.
