Coulee Tsunami Rebirth

Spende geschützt

At 2:30 a.m. on August 28th, 2018, a federal erosion control dam constructed in the 1950s at the head of a Wisconsin valley failed under the turbulent weight of 14 inches of rain in five hours. The resulting tidal wave swept away five buildings (including a 100+-year old barn), a wood-fired brick oven, two tractors, three wagons, acres and acres of fencing, countless tools, lifetimes of community memories and the dreams of dairy farmers Becky and Tucker Gretebeck. Their property was covered for wind and fire, but not for a tsunami.

In the weeks since, hundreds of friends and strangers who have grown their own family memories attending the Gretebecks’ annual Pumpkin Patch celebrations in this valley have asked how they can help.

This is how. Becky and Tucker are a spectacular glue of love, providing a beautiful place for all people to come together season after season, year after year. Now that the shock of loss is waning, they’re determined to rebuild and keep this special valley open to all. They are proud, and uncomfortable asking for help, so we—a group of their friends—are asking for them. Anything you can give will bring us allone step closer together, and revive this magical place at the heart of our community. The funding goal we’ve set is far, far less than what they lost, but even a little will be a start back. Thank you!
