My name is Cait Callahan and I am a senior at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. I am raising money to student teach at Pan-American School in Costa Rica over the months of February, March, and April. Below is a spreadsheet I have created that displays the funds I have already covered and those that I still need to figure out before I leave the country.
Captivated by Pan-American School for its dual language program, diverse staff members, and international student population, I would like to put my theory into practice as a contributing team member. My proficiency in the English language, strong independence, and balance between spontaneity and practicality makes me an ideal candidate to student teach abroad.
Thank you for your considerations, as I am dedicated to helping students develop more accurate perceptions of the world, while broadening my social, national, and global perspectives at Pan-American School.

A short biography:
Four years ago, I moved from Chicago to Durango without any financial support to build a new life for myself and become more independent. I instantly sought out work and spent a few months developing my support system. Not once did I consider going home when life became difficult, giving up was not an option for me. Working two different jobs and having little money after rent, I quickly learned to budget. I filed for a loan and agreed to make large monthly payments in order to enroll as an out-of-state student at Fort Lewis College. Worth every dollar, my education at Fort Lewis College has opened my eyes, motivating me to expand on my personal and professional growth.
Consistently having witnessed children who are English Language Learners or historically marginalized struggle with grade-level expectations, I have developed a strong concern for an equal education for all students. During my enrollment at Fort Lewis College, I have completed the requirements to earn an endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education to critically evaluate best practices and serve language learners. I have had the opportunity to spend over 350 hours assisting and supporting first, second, fourth, and fifth grade classrooms in various elementary schools in the local Durango area, and the learning environment of three to five year olds at the on-campus early childhood education center.
More information on Pan-American School:
Located near San Jose, the capital city of Costa Rica, Pan-American School is roughly a forty minute bus ride from the host family I will be staying with. The school houses Pre-k – 11th grade and supports a dual language program that varies in instruction from English to Spanish, based on grade level. A variety of extra-curricular activities such as ballet, karate, drawing, and cooking classes are offered. In higher grades, students have the option to participate in an international exchange program in partnership with the United States and Canada.
Pan-American School received the Blue Flag distinction for its ecological commitment to the environment and an International accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) of the United States. The school is authorized as a World School to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). This year, 100% of seniors earned the MEP National Baccalaureate Diploma. Pan-American School is part of the Association of Private Education Schools (ACEP), the Association of American Schools of Central America (AASCA), and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
