Help save 25 kittens and prevent more births!
I recently moved into a new house in Virginia, and the former owners conveniently “forgot” to mention that they were leaving behind dozens of outdoor cats and litters of kittens.
In recent weeks, I’ve counted 12 adults and approximately 25 kittens. Some of the adult cats are sweet and tame; others are shy of people. None have been fixed, and likely never vaccinated, because many show signs of upper respiratory illness. So far, I’ve spent more than $600 taking three of the sickest kittens to the veterinarian.
I’ve called countless humane societies, shelters, and rescue groups looking for help, but as I’ve heard time and again, this is the height of “kitten season,” and all these organizations are full to bursting.
After one poor baby was attacked and killed by a fox, I caught 17 of the kittens and have brought them into my home. I’m trying to trap the other 8-10 kittens to get them to safety, too.
The kittens are wonderful but need shots, deworming, and spay/neuter when they’re old enough. Most importantly, I need to get all the adults sterilized asap before more litters are born.
I’ve contacted nonprofit spay/neuter clinics in my area and am working to get appointments for the adult cats first and then the kittens. But even at discounted prices, the costs of vaccinating, deworming, and sterilizing this many animals is more than I can afford.
I’m doing my best to care for these precious animals who didn’t ask to be born and left behind, but this situation is overwhelming.
