Hello!
My name is Jackson. I am the Writer and Lead Director of this project, as well as the creator of 7BY7 Studios. If you want to skip straight to what this GoFundMe is about, scroll down to the bolded section.
I am a 21 year old college student living and studying filmmaking in Indiana. Recently, I, as well as several other students, have taken up the exciting, stressful, and fulfilling task of creating a short film.
This is where we need your help. Filmmaking is something that, in our part of Indiana, isn't fostered or developed. Due to this, we are working with low resources and assets.
But before I get more into that, I want to first give you a better idea of what this project is about with full transparency, as I wouldn’t want you to give funding to something you weren’t fully sure about. So, I will explain everything about this exciting, and scarily ambitious passion project, APOK.
What is APOK?
APOK is a short film that I hope to turn into an episodic anthology series in the future, if given the opportunity. Now, before I go any further, I want to state that:
This GOFUNDME is targeted towards supporting the production of the first episode of the APOK series, titled “EPISODE 1 - IN IT'S WAKE,” which will be in the form of a 40 minute short film/pilot. Your donations would be used for the following purposes:
- Easing the burden of travel on Cast/Crew (Gas, Food, Hotels) as well as purchases already made for Costumes, Props, and other set additions.
- Purchasing new/better equipment for quality (Lighting, Audio, Cameras)
- Higher quality/story accurate props and costume additions (accessories mainly)
The series overall would follow the struggles and lives of different characters living in the unexplainable aftermath of the near complete extinction of humanity, as well as the changing world around them. The scientific rules and boundaries that keep our world in the balance are starting to unravel in the post-world of APOK, resulting in supernatural and unexplainable anomalies, events, and circumstances. This only scratches the surface of the depth of the lore APOK has, and where we would take it if given the opportunity to flesh it out in a series.
APOK: EPISODE 1 - IN IT'S WAKE
This episode follows our main character, JOHNNY, a young man riddled with grief, unending nightmares, and a mysterious sickness, dealing with the aftermath of The Collapse, a strange and catastrophic event that almost completely wiped out humanity years ago. Johnny chooses to live the same day over and over, isolating himself from the new and dangerous post-world, hiding out in an old sanatorium. Johnny’s lifestyle is challenged when something from the outside finds him, resulting in a suspenseful and nerve wracking chain of events that will push Johnny to his limits and force him to confront his fear and guilt.
This universe is heavily inspired by stories like, “The Last of Us,” and “Darkwood.” It follows genres and themes of supernatural, horror, action, suspense, and thriller. APOK is a world shrouded in mystery, and is a story in the form of a coil that will slowly unravel itself as the series progresses.
Currently, we are in the pre-production phase of the project, and working on several exciting things! Such as;
- Building a fully functional, practical monster suit.
- Costumes made by students specializing and studying in professional costume development.
- Unique and expansive locations located across Indiana.
As far as dates go, we are quickly approaching our first filming date, with this first weekend of shooting set to start within the next month. Our current issue so far is that while we possess the base equipment necessary for this film, we would like to reach a higher budget so that we can invest in better equipment for a better overall product for our audience and a better representation of what we want this world to be, as well as properly care for our cast/crew during the long process.
Unfortunately, something I will say about this project is that I have not yet produced or released a short film before, which can absolutely be a risk for donors. However, APOK is the result of months of preparing and the procurement of several unique and talented people all determined to get this thing out, including people who have successfully released short films and worked on larger scale projects.
APOK is too much to chew for one person. Luckily, with lots of passionate people, we are all able to chew it one piece at a time, and, with your help, can make the burden of time and production in this project a little lighter on all of us, as well as give several college students the chance to work together on something special.
With that being said, APOK is much more than just a short film. It is a chance, for me, and every student working on it to have the chance to show what they can do. APOK is a first-time for all of us as well as an experimental learning experience, pulling from the talents of those in filmmaking and those who aren't. The passion of this project and the learning experience is something I want to foster well into the future even after this short film, and is what you would also be investing in if you donate.
That just about covers everything. If you took the time to read through this, I thank you wholeheartedly. The world of APOK is something I’m constantly thinking about, so people showing interest in it reminds me of why this is worth it, why I love to tell stories, and why I will continue to do so.
If you have any questions or concerns about me, the project, or anything else, I have attached a few forms of communication of which you can use to contact me. Even if you decide not to donate to this project, I still welcome people’s interest in the project, so if you have questions don’t be afraid to ask!
