On Saturday, May 18th, 2019, Elisa and her daughter Olivia were devastated to find their husband and father, Michael, had tried to end his own life. On Wednesday, May 22nd Michael Edward Dease unfortunately passed at 9:29pm after doctors at Sunrise Hospital did everything they possibly could to save him.
Losing Michael so quickly and unexpectedly has left them in absolute shock and despair. The life and dreams they were all building together has been stolen from them. Elisa is now left with raising her daughter as a single mother and trying to help her get through this tragic event in the midst of dealing with her own trauma, grief and loss.
Through this page, we not only want to support Elisa & Olivia, but bring light to the suicide epidemic. Such a permanent decision often made because of a temporary problem has life long devastating outcomes that rifles across our society. The pain of the daily impact of Michael’s loss is so real, and the agony dealing with the reality of him being gone, the countless unanswered questions, and the acceptance that their lives will be foreverchanged without Michael in it--is a reality that is so hard for them both to accept. Elisa’s main concern right now is guiding her daughter down this new path and keeping her feeling loved and safe. They have already begun counseling to guide and support them through this trauma.
In lieu of flowers, Elisa will be setting up college fund and Trust for Olivia. Please consider donating to help with Olivia’s future. At some point in the near future, Elisa and Olivia will be selling prints of Michael’s amazing artwork to show the world the talented artist that he was. All proceeds will go directly to Olivia’s college fund and Trust.
We would also like to draw light to this issue of suicide and hope this page reaches someone who may be feeling like there is no hope. Men often are much more private than women and harbor feelings of failure more than we know. People are very good at hiding their demons--and unfortunately they hold things in to the point where they break. Please don’t let this happen to someone you know and love. Suicide is a permanent answer to an often temporary problem in your life. Your life has so much value and purpose so we can encourage you to speak to someone who can help you navigate your journey. There is hope- we promise.
On behalf of the Dease family, they thank you from the bottom of their hearts for all of the love, messages, meals, and support you have shown them over the past week. Please continue praying for the Lord to heal their broken hearts and bring peace, comfort and love.
Please feel free to share this page. We hope that it is met with compassion, understanding, and abundant generosity.
