Clyde’s Journey Home
Don protégé
On Wednesday March 2nd my sister Abby was 35 weeks pregnant when her water broke. Less than 15 minutes later she suffered a full placenta abruption and hemorrhaged massively. After being rushed to the hospital and undergoing an emergency c-section, the doctors were able to save both Abby and Baby Clyde’s lives.
Once all the chaos calmed the doctors noticed that something was off with Baby Clyde. The doctors determined that Clyde’s esophagus was not attached to his stomach. Clyde was transferred to Women and Children’s hospital in Columbia MO. At 24 hours old Clyde underwent his first surgery to connect his esophagus to his stomach. The surgery was a success. However, just a few short days later the doctors noticed 2 small holes on the outside of his heart. The doctors informed us that the holes could potentially close on their own so it didn’t raise much concern. Another scan of the heart was taken and a third, much larger, hole was found inside the heart between the right and left ventricle. This hole would not be able to close on its own. The doctors predicted that he would not need surgery for this hole until 6-8 weeks after his due date (April 6th). This did not hold true and Clyde begin to have serious issues with his heart and lungs because of this birth defect.
On Monday April 18th the decision was made to fly Clyde to Saint Louis Children’s Hospital where he would get this lifesaving surgery. He is currently stable and getting incredible care. The cardiologists are reviewing his case and deciding the best time to perform his surgery.
Abby and Clyde’s big brother, Kaiden, are staying in a hotel in STL until Clyde has healed from his surgery and is ready to go home. Cody is still working and will have to commute 2.5 hours to STL to see his family. This entire situation has created a financial burden for the family. This GoFundMe is being used to help the family with the growing expenses as they go through this incredibly unpredictable time.
