Cherwell Collective: Live, Learn, Eat, Grow

Cherwell Collective, CIC helps our community cut carbon footprints through education and outreach. We reduce waste and help disadvantaged individuals .
Our main activities include supporting our three core community groups. Cherwell Larder, Climatarian Kitchen, and Harvest @ Home  were founded in response to food insecurity and financial hardship directly due to COVID.  You can read about these groups below.  We are seeking funds to purchase supplies for these groups and to establish ourselves to provide long term support for the community. No amount is too small. Thanks for reading.

Cherwell Larder: Friends Feeding Friends. A non means-tested service providing food and other essentials to our community. Our volunteers and delivery drivers are also users, building solidarity and sustainability of the larder long-term.  Our larder users are mostly people facing financial hardships due to COVID (40% are families, and 40% are single older adults). A donation of £5 sponsors food for a household for one week (see picture for an example parcel, worth about £20 at a shop): We feed 100 households each week. You can give directly to Cherwell Larder GOFundMe separately as well

Climatarian Kitchen: Eat to save the earth. We provide cooking courses, meal kits and ready meals made from surplus food, with priority distribution to Cherwell Larder users. Meal kits include flexible recipes to build confidence in cooking with food surplus/long life foods.  £5 will provide a family with a flexible meal kit with step by step instructions for substituting seasonal/ available ingredients and reducing food waste. Here is an example of one such kit, a vegetarian lentil soup, which feeds a family of four and reduces food waste.

£10 covers the costs of a low-carbon ready meal for a family of 4, delivered to their home (such as our creamy vegan coconut chickpea curry pictured below). £25 donations cover the cost of food training for individuals interested in pursing their skills or helping us feed others in the community. £100 provides a space in our culinary courses for a disadvantaged individual. We provide a foundation of basic cooking skills as well as equipment and ingredients to help our community learn to make the most of seasonal, local and surplus ingredients.

Harvest @ Home: Food security from the ground up. We provide an online support community including experts  such as lifelong amateur gardeners who can draw parallels to WWII victory gardens and professional gardeners and farms. Our goal is to maximise success and yield through year-round education and guidance.
A donation of £50 supports a preplanted mini garden for a family facing food insecurity or supplies for someone who has been isolating due to COVID. We have 125 households currently signed up for Harvest @ Home.

Harvest @ Home users also give back. We've had cherries, lettuce, beans, apples, tomatoes, squash, and much more donated to Cherwell Larder by Harvest @ Home users.
