On July 26 my friend Darren had an extremely close encounter with death. A lighthearted evening of fun turned into a nightmare caused by a senseless act of violence. A gunman opened fire, and out of the five people shot, Darren suffered the most severe injuries despite being an unintended target. Three shots and three surgeries later, Darren is unable to walk for three months, left to cope with the fact that his athletic endeavors and future dreams of being in the Armed Forces may be left unfulfilled. 

Darren will have to learn how to walk again, and may have to have additional surgery if the injury to the bone in his right leg has not healed properly after his 8-12 week evaluation. Unbeknownst to him, his loved ones have created this GoFund in the hopes of alleviating any financial worry and stress caused by this event. Due to his current handicapped state, Darren is unable to obtain any type of employment until further notice. 

Darren is always a sweet-spirited, humble individual, who is constantly rendering help to others without expecting anything in return. A donation of any kind would be beneficial to helping Darren focus on his physical rehabilitation and looking towards the conclusion of this traumatic chapter in his life.
