Nihi Diné Bá
Donación protegida
A large portion of the Diné/ Navajo on the reservation live in substandard conditions and rampant poverty. While this inequity became markedly noticeable during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is deep-seated. As in the USA, those most in need often do not get help from their tribal government. Our GoFundMe gives priority to the elderly, veterans, families with small children, and the disabled.
Many homes still have no electricity nor running water. Donation funds are used for life-saving basics - such as soap, food, seeds, blankets, warm winter clothing, home insulation supplies, clean water tanks and gas money/maintenance costs for the trucks used to refill them. Each year since our inception in 2020, money collected has been used to fund the harvesting, chopping and distribution of fire wood and coal for home heating. As a result of the recent government cuts to education, schools are reopening without the bare minimum of supplies for the teachers and students. Thus, we do our best to provide needed school items. The Indian Health Services (funded by Medicaid) faces diminished supplies, cuts to personnel and the threat of permanent closure. And so, we raise money for PPE (such as masks and gloves) for medical and nursing professionals and all those who work on the frontlines, especially now as the COVID numbers once again are on the rise.
ALL of the funds and goods obtained via this GoFundMe have been and will continue to be dispersed to our on-the-ground trusted Traditional Spiritual Community relatives. They then distribute the supplies to those in need. The goal of the campaign is to reach as many of the inhabitants of the Diné reservations as possible with essential, life-supporting supplies. The fund will continue until there is no further need for the fund.
