Donation protected
Newport This Week and the Newport Gulls are partnering to support one of our own community members, Jake Cathers. Jake was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer and undergoes chemotherapy treatments weekly at Newport Hospital.

Jake is a resident of Middletown with his wife, Leslie, and their three children: Jackson, Merritt, and Georgia. He is a graduate of Rogers High School and Rhode Island College. His community work includes:
  • Newport County Regional Special Education Advisory Committee
  • Middletown Prevention Coalition - Board Chair
  • Newport Life Magazine Groundbreak Award Recipient
  • Women's Resource Center - Men Who Make a Difference
  • Middletown Little League - Girl's Softball Coach
  • Unified Volleyball - Middletown High School Coach
  • Head Coach - Girl's Softball - Gaudet Middle School
  • Coach - Girl's Softball - Middletown High School
  • Coach - Girl's Tennis - Middletown High School

Jake has been a contributing writer for The Newport Daily News and currently for Newport This Week. Jake also writes a blog about his experiences dealing with his special needs son, Jackson, who has a rare genetic disorder called Angelman's Syndrome.

Please help us support Jake's fight against pancreatic cancer by donating to Jake and his family. All of the proceeds are going directly to the Cathers family to support Jake's fight. We would invite you all to join us on Friday, July 25th, when our community comes together to celebrate and support Jake Cathers Night at the Newport Gulls
