Carmen's Pre-Med Costa Rica Trip

Hey guys!
Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of becoming a doctor. Because I knew I wouldn't have the funding to go to college, I worked hard and earned scholarships to cover all four years of undergraduate school. As a first generation student, I was directly admitted into the College of Arts and Science at Indiana University and began my premed track, studying Biology, Spanish, and Medical Sociology.
I made the Dean's List and became the first ever Student Research Assistant working for Indiana University's Associate Vice President of Research. We have devoted our time and efforts towards solving the opioid crisis in Indiana (https://grandchallenges.iu.edu/). While working on the Addictions Grand Challenge, I have realized that our society is harmed most by lack of education and training in stressful situations.
With this in mind, I have the opportunity to study abroad with the University of Colorado's School of Medicine to gain experience and training in Emergency Medicine. This 10 day trip will take place in Costa Rica and we will be using military medicine and survival skills to access the surrounding terrain for medical use. In addition to this, we will be receiving our Wilderness First Responder certifications and gaining very valuable advice from many different physicians. This trip gives me the opportunity to learn more about Emergency Medicine, a chance to enforce my Spanish, and networking opportunities with medical professionals.
Even though I received scholarships to go to school, none of them will cover this study abroad trip. So, I am asking for your help to raise $4,000 by May in efforts to send me to Costa Rica for an opportunity of a lifetime. Seats are filling fast and to reserve my spot I have to make a $500 down payment very soon. Any little bit helps and I appreciate it more than you will ever know.
Thank you for helping me become Dr. Zavala.
