Camilles Mayo Clinic Treatment
A lot of people don't know about the various medical conditions that I have, or that I have lived with chronic pain for half of my life. This affects me not just physically, but mentally as well. Living in constant pain is hard to deal with.
I received a referral to Mayo Clinic to get treatment recommendations for my PTSD and fibromyalgia. Upon explaining my current medical conditions, they recommended that I complete the questionnaire to determine if they would accept me for an appointment. I had a video chat with the internal medicine doctor and he would like for me to be scheduled to go up to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for a visit full of diagnostics, and hopefully some answers and relief from the pain.
I am excited to have this opportunity to finally have doctors look at all of my conditions together, and hopefully get me out of even half of the pain that I live with every day. I truly don't remember what it feels like to not be in pain, and it has affected every aspect of my life. My mental health, work, and relationships are suffering because of it. Every day I am taking 6 different medications, and there is a chance we might be able to reduce that amount.
Some of the symptoms I have on a regular basis include:
-Constant pain in my upper and lower back, neck, and joints
-Numbness in my hands and toes
-Fatigue
-Panic attacks
-Trouble sleeping
-Brain fog
-Difficulty with concentrating and staying focused
The doctor said that I may be there for 5-8 days depending on how the scheduling can be coordinated, and I will be staying in a hotel near the hospital for that time. I should be receiving a call in the next couple of weeks with an itinerary of appointments and procedures. I don’t have any paid time off left mainly due to needing to take time off work due to my medical conditions, and will have to take unpaid leave for this trip.
I am usually helping others, and as much as I don’t like it, now it is my turn to lean on my friends. I know that times are hard and uncertain right now, but if you find your situation permits, I could use any amount of help. Your support will help pay for my travel expenses and keep up with bills and needs at home.
