Camden: Our Little Warrior Combats Cancer

On December 10, 2019, 3-year-old Camden Kingyens of Summerside, PEI was taken to outpatients with what was presumed to be a simple virus. One intuitive doctor and a cat scan later, he was rushed to the IWK hospital in Halifax and subsequently diagnosed with an advanced cancer presenting as tumors on his brain and spine (medulloblastoma). He has already undergone surgery to remove the main large tumor and now he will undergo many months of intensive chemotherapy to treat his remaining tumors starting December 31. This will involve extended stays at both the IWK in Halifax and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. 

Camden’s parents are Matt and Victoria Kingyens, and he has a big brother Nate who is 6 years old. Camden is the grandson of Peter & Christine Gallant, and Rod & Tanyia Kingyens.  Camden loves trucks, playing with his big brother and his cousins Sammy and Rosie. He is incredibly happy and affectionate and he is our little warrior. He has endured so much already and still has the biggest smiles through it all. 

Victoria and Matt are self-employed and there will be enormous financial expenses both in loss of work and travel/accommodation while they are in Halifax and Toronto. 

We don’t want them to have any worries in this area during this time. It is absolutely essential that they focus all of their hearts on Camden’s recovery and caring for Nate.
