One Last Hurdle For Market St Cafe

LIVIN' THE DREAM

Ever since Sutton was tiny, he's wanted to be a chef. He found a rare woman who encourages his talents and enjoys his sublime concoctions. Monique worked tirelessly to help his food truck become a whimsical feature on the streets of Austin. When Monique decided she wanted to pursue dreams of her own, Sutton urged her to leave her long time position at a prestigious salon. They tightened their belts and made it work. Monique enrolled in an herbal studies program and took to her coursework with enthusiasm. Somewhere in all of this, they tied the knot in a fanciful Alice in Wonderland wedding. Night owl guests thronged the Gonzo truck. Sutty's Monte Cristo -- with spicy strawberry jam -- became a overnight legend.  It was the talk of the weekend (which is really saying something considering it was a wild party full of tutus & top-hats.)

Shortly into marriage, an opportunity presented itself: a historical spot in Lockhart would make a lovely cafe and apothecary. It's a project that represents two merged dreamers and their shared dream. Their aim? To nourish & heal.  For months, they've poured every ounce of their combined energy and resources into the old building across from the courthouse. The mayor attended their ribbon cutting and the townsfolk spread the word. We wanted in on the fun of the grand opening (which was going grandly) so, unbeknownst to Sut, we stealthily hit the highway. We wanted to show up for Sunday brunch and request a table like we were  just more curious denizens of Lockhart. It wasn't to be. I was just another disappointed face peering through the window, wishing for pumpkin pie smoothies or herb-infused shrimp ladled over grits. Wah! Why!? Well, the building has antique charm...but the pipes were unprepared for the sudden success that surged through the old bank building. The kitchen flooded and Chef Sutton shut it down. The landlord's fixing the pipes and the city, the sewer. Still, it could be another week, maybe two. In the meantime, payroll is due. Sutton and Monique can't bear to leave their staff hanging during the holidays... employees that worked hard to launch the cafe.... good people who signed on because they believe in Sut's food and Mo's magic.

Hmmm.  I'm thinking there's probably people like me who'd like to offer up a few bucks but fear it'd only be a futile drop in the bucket. Maybe we could combine drops, gaily filling the bucket without much trouble or sacrifice. Sutton has given the idea some thought and he eventually agreed with one caveat: your donation will be repaid with a cafe gift certificate. So hot damn! Let's  treat ourselves to a delicious meal while helping to nudge a hard-working pair over this last hurdle.

[Leave your name so that Chef Sutton can leave your gift certificate on file at the counter.]
