Build a Safe Haven and a Future for Women Survivors of Violence in Burundi
We have the land, but we need your help to build a shelter and a Center for Skills Development and Education for Women Victims of Gender-Based Violence and Human Trafficking in Kiremba Commune, located in Butanyerera Province, Burundi.
Phase I - Cost: $135,000 will allow us to build a facility to accommodate 20 women at a given time, 1 classroom/training center, kitchen, and 2 offices.
Today, we invite you to be part of a life-changing initiative. The creation of this project is being launched by Muslims for Progressive Values (MPV) a 19 year old 501 (C)(3) based in Los Angeles and the Alliance des Imams du Corridor Nord pour le Développement Humanitaire (AICNDH) based in Burundi. Our organizations have been partners for 9 years implementing programs in advancing women and girls rights through “know your rights” workshops, seed funding in support of women economic empowerment, human rights curricula for children, and training of teenagers and leaders.
Please check out testimonials from women we have helped build businesses and economic independence here .
After 10 years of work, we feel we are ready to consolidate our efforts, housed on one campus, starting with Phase I.
Why This Project Matters
Across the world, millions of women suffer from gender-based violence (GBV) and human trafficking, often with little support or opportunity to rebuild their lives. In Burundi, women and girls experience violence in silence, and this violence is especially severe in rural areas where poverty, limited education, and social stigma make it difficult for survivors to find safety, dignity, and independence.
Survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, forced marriage, or trafficking often have nowhere to go, without safe housing or financial independence, forcing them to return to their violent abusers.
Our solution:
- Provide shelter to survivors struggling with trauma with psychological counseling
- Provide education and literacy programs
- Provide vocational training (tailoring to agriculture and entrepreneurship skills)
- Provide economic opportunities with seed funding
- Implement community awareness programs to prevent violence against women and girls in the first place
The accommodation will include: Safe residential rooms for beneficiaries, sanitation and hygiene facilities, access to clean water, beds, mattresses, and essential furniture, basic kitchen and communal space, in a secure fenced and well lit campus.
Sustainability
With Phase I: Included in this initial campaign is the cost of construction and administration of the programs. A portion of the land will be used to train survivors in agricultural and farming skills, which will generate an income stream from the crops harvested, for use at the center and for sale.
Together We Can Build Hope
The women this project aims to support are not just survivors, they are potentially future leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers.
By supporting this campaign, you are helping create a place where women can transform their pain into strength and rebuild their lives with confidence.
With your help, we can build more than a building.
We can build hope, dignity, and a future free from violence.
Donate today and help us build a safe haven and a future for women survivors in Burundi.
Together, we can change lives.
