Bring Derek Back to Katie & Minna

On Thursday April 19th one of our Shopify family’s lives changed forever. After weeks battling what was assumed to be the flu, Derek Bauchman was admitted to the hospital with bacterial meningitis. His condition deteriorated quickly and the swelling in his brain was severe. He lost his memory and ability to see and walk. While he initially had moments of lucidity and knew who his family was, he most often forgets and has no recollection of his beautiful life.

After one week at the Hanover District Hospital with little to no improvement , Derek was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital in London, Ontario where he still remains in critical condition. His moments of lucidity are non existent at this point and his family waits on results of an MRI to determine whether there is any permanent brain damage. As for the swelling, the doctors said it could take weeks for it to go down.

Katie hasn’t left Derek’s side and has had to be away from their beautiful baby girl Minna who turned 7 months this week. She continues to watch her life partner, best friend and father of her child slip further and further away with no sign of relief in site.

As you can imagine, an unexpected crisis like this can cripple a family financially. With Katie on maternity leave and Derek being their main provider and currently out of work indefinitely, they could use any support you may be able to provide.
