Please help bring Barbara home
Don protégé
Our mum and dad have both recently retired and travelled to Turkey for a relaxing break. They were due to fly home on 6th March 2023, 15 minutes before boarding the flight home mum collapsed and was unresponsive.
An ambulance took her to a nearby hospital and they informed my dad that she had had a heart attack and a stroke which resulted in swelling on her brain and she would need emergency surgery or it could be fatal. We of course agreed but unfortunately the travel insurance our parents had has expired by a couple of days without them realising and all medical costs must be paid by the family.
The cost is currently €1500 per day plus €9,500 for the surgery and the hospital have advised she will need to stay in for at least 6 weeks. Given the mounting daily costs and the fact that the hospital would not discharge her and allow her to fly for at least 10 days after the surgery we feel medical repatriation is the best option we have available.
The amount we need to raise is to cover the cost of a medical flight back to the UK, plus medical costs incurred whilst in Turkey.
We do not know the full prognosis of her health or how long Mum would have to remain in hospital, but we feel that being close to family is extremely important to help aid her recovery.
With the help and generosity of those who know and love Barbara, we hope to raise the funds necessary for her repatriation to the UK.
Thank you for taking the time to read Barbara’s story. We really do appreciate any help you may be able to give. Please share Barbara’s story with others.
