Brain tumor and associated expenses

I am an honorably discharged Army vet and my wife, Robin, is a breast cancer survivor.  We have been working 7 days a week since forever to make it to retirement. Since the great recession, we have been getting by with our online sales at myknifestore.net. Things have been good lately and I actually started fishing in some spare time.

 

Last week I was hit from nowhere with a seizure. CAT scan revealed a mass in my brain. MRI, PET scan, and brain biopsy performed Thursday and Friday of last week. I came home Saturday and awaiting biopsy results. Our only choice for insurance under Obamacare has been BCBS of NC. Our deductible is around $12,000.00. None of the bills are in yet, but I would imagine the few tests and surgery are well over the deductible. Regardless of the tumor’s type (malignant or benign) I will need further treatment for removal or shrinkage of the tumor. I am on anti seizure medicine now to prevent another episode like the one that nearly killed me last Thursday.

 

I am not one to go around begging money. We (me and insurance) paid for all the cancer treatment for my Wife. We had much better insurance in those days. Today is a different story. Poor insurance, high premiums and deductibles plus a loss of income while I go to appointments and procedures. We have very little to fall back on and are asking the community to help us out. I am still working on our internet sales as can be managed, but I do not know for how long that can continue.
