Update: 23/10/25. I did it!!!!

It feels the right time to write a little note about why I decided to raise money for The Bowerham School Foundation. Firstly, I wanted my daughter who attends Bowerham School to feel involved and connected to the cause I was supporting.

Secondly, when the Covid Pandemic struck in March 2020, our daughter was in reception at Bowerham. My husband and I were key workers who couldn't work from home so our daughter continued to go to school. I'm sure at the time staff were terrified but they didn't let this show and school became a blanket of stability at a very uncertain time - for parents as well as pupils.

Thirdly, I know from working in safeguarding the unseen work that schools do across the UK. Work that goes way beyond providing education. They notice the children who often go unseen; quietly providing food, clothes, warmth and safety to them against a backdrop of reduced funds and political pressure.

So, a huge thank you for the donations, the shares and the support. I really appreciate it. The money raised will help a community school continue to wrap its arms around its children - so that the children can grow into adults who will pay it forward. That makes every step of the 26.2 miles worth it.

Do you want to join me in making a difference? This October I will be running the Yorkshire Marathon in aid of BOWERHAM SCHOOL FOUNDATION. The Bowerham School Foundation aims to provide financial support to Bowerham Primary and Nursery School, particularly for students facing financial hardship. The foundation primarily focuses on funding the Breakfast Club initiative and assisting families with the costs of school trips and additional learning resources.

Running 26.2 miles is a MASSIVE challenge for me. Whilst I run short distances fairly regularly, running is not something that comes easily to me; I am sure that those who have witnessed me doing the parents race on Sport's Day can attest to this!

I would be very grateful for any donations but am mindful that times are hard so please do not feel under any pressure to donate. A wave of encouragement if you see me out running would be just as appreciated, or perhaps join me on one of my jaunts (I promise it won't be fast!).

Thank you so much for your support,

Emily
