Love for Landon
Landon was born in March of 2012 with a life threatening congenital heart disease called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome or HLHS. This is a severe heart defect in which the left side of the heart is underdeveloped. Multiple surgeries are the only option to sustain his life. Landon also has some variants, which additionally complicate his HLHS condition.
The surgical process to repair HLHS requires a series of three reconstructive operations known as "Staged Reconstruction." Shortly after birth this precious little baby boy had his first of three open heart surgeries to, in essence, re-plumb his heart, and his second surgery at only five months old. Now, at two years and four months old, he is undergoing his third open heart surgery, the Fontan Procedure, on July 18th. It is the most complicated of all three open heart surgeries.
To the casual observer, Landon is your average two year old little boy, although, he is so much more than that to his loving family and friends. He's as active as he can be and always trying to keep up with his four year old big sister. Landon is a happy little guy who's incredibly smart for his age, curious about everything, and he has a loving spirit and generous nature. He likes dinosaurs, Oreo cookies, Legos, coloring, playing golf, throwing a ball of any kind, and (ironically) his favorite super hero is Iron Man. You can't help but smile when you're around Landon. He just melts your heart!
As if the surgery and recovery alone weren't stressful enough, Landon's parents will need extra help, financially, due to out-of-pocket living expenses and extensive travel associated with Landon's surgery and lengthy hospital recovery time.
When family, friends, and community pull together, it makes miracles possible, the difficult times more bearable, and the impossible achievable.
