Bluey's Rescue from a Neglectful Home
Donation protected
Several months ago, Jen and I found a dog wandering around a grocery store at 11pm.
We took him home, bathed him, fed him, and over the course of the next 24 hours fell in love as we put up lost dog ads everywhere and anywhere online.
We found the owner, and although sad to see him go, returned him home.
He lived in a very poor home, with an owner who could not or would not learn how to take care of a dog.
He spent all of his summer sitting in a kennel on the front porch, as a husky in the summer heat, except when he was out on a lead or ran away which seemed to happen regularly.
Last week and 3 months later as Jen and I recovered from COVID, we got a text from the owners asking us to take him because they were moving and could not find a dog friendly landlord.
We agreed, out of concern he may be sheltered if we said no. Regardless we had fallen in love with Blue when we found him, and would've been happy to keep him in the first place.
We then spent the next day and a half preparing for a very sudden unplanned dog, still burnt out from COVID. Researching pet supplies, training, vets nearby, and assembling a laundry list of questions to ask about his past.
But the day before we scheduled our reunion with Blue, he got loose again, ran into the street, and got hit by a car. After that he ran away and the owner couldn't find him.
We drove around distraught for awhile, and eventually returned home where Jen slaved away calling shelters and posting lost dog ads furiously.
3 days later we got the text that he was found and rather than risk him getting loose again, immediately dropped what we were doing to go pick him up.
We immediately drove him to the closest Petco for supplies, and during shopping discovered he was heavily flea infested. It appeared as though he had been covered in fleas untreated for a month or longer, as the groomer later told us his entire body was covered in a thin layer of blood from the flea bites and scratching.
In the last 24 hours we have spent $700 getting him all of the essentials, food, as well as professionally groomed for fleas and ticks.
He still needs:
- To be properly examined by a vet for injuries or illness.
- Prescription flea prevention medications.
- Another groomer appointment to remove the fleas and flea shells.
- Neutering, as well as the medications and supplies we need to deal with that.
- And various other bits and pieces like a seat belt for the car, grooming tools, trainer fees, as well as a variety of other necessities to keep him healthy, and happy.
Blue is one of the sweetest, most even tempered dog I've met, and he hasn't even been properly trained.
Despite the costs we're determined to keep Blue safe, healthy, and give him a better life than he's been living for the past 3 years.
Anything is g r e a t l y appreciated, thank you so much for learning about the new love of our lives.
Updated the goal to $3000 to reflect the growing medical bill quotes
