Hello, My name is Glyph and i'm fundraising for my partner and I to get out of a red state into a blue state. We're trying to raise money to move to Illinois.
Our state has passed many anti trans laws and is well known for being awful for disabled people on top of racist. My partner is Bipoc so I'm worried for their safety.
One big reason we want to move to Illinois is to get better medical care than we're currently able to get here. Several procedures I need have been denied because of many anti abortion laws passed here. It's also getting extremely difficult to get the medications we both need and treatments. My Partner's job does not offer insurance and DHS will not give it to them as they're over the very small limit in our state.
There is a very real threat of me losing my insurance that pays for my partner to be my home care worker which could render us homeless. There are no safe resources for homeless people in my current state and we'd be cast out into a harsh winter with our cats.
I'm wheelchair bound to top all of this off and many doctors we've run into in arkansas have been ableist and refused to help. We've spent a long time fighting to just get a power chair covered.
We estimate we'd need about 3k to be able to make the move and we plan to move in with a few friends in Illinois when they're able to house us.
We plan to supplement this by my partner doing doordash. I'm currently on fixed income and the rent of our current place takes almost all of it and the bills we pay takes the rest of my partner's pay so it's increasingly difficult to obtain any savings with the rising cost of food and medical care.
My partner is currently my homecare worker and we would have to reapply when moving to a new state and this could unfortunately take several months as it took over a year to get this in arkansas. Working a retail job is not viable for them. So part of this amount is supposed to help with that.
The extra amount on the goal is to deal with Gofundme's fees.
