The two projects I'm fundraising for as part of the A-Sisterhood charity are The Black Mambas Project in Africa and The Wildlife SOS Project in India.

The Black Mambas are South Africa’s first all-female anti-poaching unit, and they operate on the front line of the Balule coalition of private game reserves on the western border of the world famous Kruger National Park. The team was created when 26 local jobless female high school graduates were put through intensive tracking and combat training Programme kitted out in second hand European military uniforms, paid for by donations. The Mambas patrol a 40,000 acre reserve to protect rhinos from poaching and are looked up to by the young women in their villages as heroes, with many young girls wanting to be black mambas when they ‘grow up’. Not only is this project rallying for the protection of animals but also in its promotion of women into traditionally male roles.

The Wildlife SOS Project is a conservation non-profit organisation in India, established in 1995 with the primary objective of rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife in distress, and preserving India's natural heritage. It is currently one of the largest wildlife organisations in South Asia. Wildlife SOS leads efforts to protect endangered wild elephant populations as well as rescue, treat and care for elephants that have been exploited by the tourism industry. They also work closely with other agencies to help enforce other wildlife protection, anti-poaching and anti trafficking laws.
