For those of you that know my Dad, Bill Barricks, they know that he is someone that would do anything for anyone at a drop of a hat. Dad has always been there for others in times of need, without thinking twice. My Dad now needs our help.
On 5/9/18, Dad was admitted into the local hospital with symptoms of a stroke. After some testing, it was learned he did have a “mini” stroke, but it just was not known when. The doctors also discovered he has Hydrocephalus (fluid in his brain), that more than likely will need to be treated through brain surgery. While he was in the hospital, Dad suffered another stroke, which has now impacted his ability to be independent. This stroke has left him with partial paralysis to the right side of his body. He has a difficult time using his right hand/arm and is not able to walk. Speech has also been affected, with his words slurring, difficulty expressing his thoughts into words, and has impacted his memory.
Dad was in the hospital for 9 days before being transferred to an intensive inpatient rehabilitation center, where he is receiving physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Once Dad is stable regarding his stroke, he then needs to meet with a neurosurgeon to address the Hydrocephalus and possible brain surgery. Dad is determined to get stronger and return home safely to my Mom and their three animals.
Before Dad was hospitalized he was working, driving, and was independent. Since the stroke, Dad is not able to work and the loss of income has become a financial burden for my Mom and Dad. Dad does not have short term disability or any paid leave time. Mom is working a full-time job, trying to manage the house, day to day duties, and do what is best for Dad. With the medical bills coming in from the hospital and the rehabilitation facility’s care, as well as their day to day living cost, this Go Fund Me account was created with the hope of some financial assistance with their expenses. Any amount that you may be able to donate would be greatly appreciated to help the financial stress on my parents, to assist with the recovery for my Dad to return home and slowly regain some sense of independence again.
