Beverly's Medical Expenses & Recovery

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Taylor. Please join me in my efforts to fundraise on behalf of my mother, Beverly Hillin Singh.

On the night of 7/4/23, Beverly was at a close friend’s house, celebrating Independence Day when she had a terrible accident. As she was leaving, she missed the last step on some cement stairs and fell hard. She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and it was determined that she had several major breaks in the bones of both legs. Her left ankle was dislocated, ligaments were torn, and her ankle was shattered. She also suffered deep bruising to the bones of her left leg. Her right tibia and fibula were broken in two places, and there was a fracture that extended into her right ankle. These major injuries required surgery, which she underwent on 7/5/23. She needed a rod and screws to repair her right leg, and her left ankle required a plate and screws. Her surgeon remarked that her left ankle was like a jigsaw puzzle, but that he was pleased there were no extra pieces and no missing pieces. As she had serious injuries that required surgery, she is non-weight bearing in both legs. She was told she has to be off her right leg for 6 weeks, and she can’t put any weight on her left ankle for 8-12 weeks.

All of this happened in the midst of some major life events. My mom was in the process of packing and moving to a new home, and the accident/surgery occurred just 10 days before her wedding! Friends and family worked hard to get her moved into her new place the same day she was discharged from the hospital on 7/8/23, and with some major adjustments and lots of effort, she was able to marry the love of her life on 7/15/23.

Although she suffered a major trauma and has been in a lot of pain, she has tried to maintain her sense of humor. She had to be in a wheelchair for her wedding, so she made some last-minute changes to the wedding music. She was wheeled down the aisle to “Low Rider,” and she changed her first dance song to “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran because the first line is “When your legs don’t work like they used to before.” She smiled and laughed through the pain that day, but she has a long road to recovery ahead of her.

My mom will be out of work for 3 months as she recovers. She is confined to her bed and has only left her room to get married and to go to her post-op appointments. As you can imagine, the expenses have been overwhelming. She is out of PTO (paid time off), and short-term disability will only cover a fraction of her salary. The funds raised here will go toward her medical bills, medical supplies, and lost wages.

My mom is a very independent person who would much rather help others than receive any assistance. This ordeal has been very hard on her as she has had to rely on others for even her most basic needs. She tries to stay positive, but her accident has taken a toll on her body as well as her spirits. If you are able, please join me as I try to lift some of the burdens she is experiencing.
