Hey people, first of all I want to thank you all for taking your time out to click on this link and read our bertys story,

On the 24th June 2025 Berty was born a healthy, happy and playful kitten, he loves climbing up the wall tower and his cat tree and loves playing with all his rescued fellow cats and 2 rescued dogs, after my aunts two eldest cats had to be put to sleep at the ages of 19years+ 2 weeks apart she was left with a sum of vet bills.
After the two eldest cats passed she opened her door to rehome/ rescue another little animal, berty become available when a friend of mine was trying to rehome him so I got him for her and he settled in well, enjoyed all the toys and loved annoying some of the older cats. Being the youngest there he was very playful and loved attention.

on the 1st September 2025 he was due to have his first set of vaccinations and be seen by the vet for the first time, everything was going fine and he got his vaccination and headed home with my aunt. A few hours later she noticed he started to get a little temp and was very sleepy which isn’t really anything different to how some of her cats have acted after their first vaccination, she thought symptoms would end up passing as the day went on and he’ll be back to he’s old self in no time. However, things went the total opposite, his arm from paw to shoulder started to swell and he became very very sleepy which she just knew something wasn’t right so she took him back to his vets and his temp was at 41 which is over the normal amount, the vet said any longer without intervention could’ve resulted in Berty passing away. It come to their knowledge he had ended up having an allergic reaction to the vaccine, the likelihood of this happing is 1-5 in 10,000 kittens, he was so lucky to be alive, although he was fighting we really didn’t know what the outcome would’ve been, his arm kept swelling and temp was hard to get back down, after around 3/4 hours in the vets his temp come down to 40 and was slowly making progress, at this moment my aunt luckily had been doing some cleaning for her elderly friend and had some money set aside to pay for he’s vets bill (£400/£500) although this meant she didn’t have anything left, she works a 9-5 and has done so since she was 19 and is now 54 and has the biggest heart to everyone and especially animals who need her help, she’s rescued all types of animals since she was in her early 20s parrots, cats, dogs and also rescues and rehomes other animals like rabbits if she can’t keep them herself.

Money is tight but she’ll always prioritise the animals over her own needs, they’re all fed high quality food and all get neutered, vaccinated, wormed and flea’d.

I thought I’ll make this go fund me to help her and enable people to also help her, to show her that humanity still exists, everyday is a struggle but I just want to be able to show her she’s appreciated and seen for what she does for animals that don’t have a voice to thank her themselves. The money will be used to pay back bertys vet bill and anything extra she’ll be able to get more things for her animals and hopefully be able to grow her little animal family even more or help the vets which she does each time she visits even if it’s a few spare change she’s got she’ll donate it to them.

Berty currently is doing well however needs to have a few more check ups with the vets to see how he’s getting on, thank you for your time and anything helps £1 or a share everything will
be appreciated thank you so much for reading

before and after of berty:

The shoulder is very swollen as you can see, the vet had to shave it to drain some of the fluid out, I believe they ended up taking around 7 full syringes of fluid out.
