Hi, my name is Connie and I am fundraising for my daughter Chloe who has Lymphoma Cancer.....her story is below.
Chloe was originally diagnosed in June 2020 with scarring on her kidneys and both were functioning at 5%, this resulted in Chloe requiring immediate same day dialysis at New Cross Hospital via a leg tube and continued multiple times a week. After a period of time Chloe was then able to complete dialysis at home but needed a tummy tube as the leg tube was continuously bleeding and uncomfortable. Chloe had complications with the Tummy tube and a decision was made for a Neck Line to be fitted and dialysis resumed at hospital. Chloe's lines were only temporary and therefore eventually had to have a fistula inserted in her left wrist and continued with dialysis at hospital 3 times a week. Chloe was on the waiting list for a Kidney Transplant and we were all so pleased to hear a match had been found for her in June 2023. During her dialysis Chloe intermittently had reduced mobility and often relied on crutches and sometimes a wheel chair, Chloe remained her usual positive self and continued with her degree at Wolverhampton University, during these times, which she found helpful to keep her focused and stay on track with her studies.
Chloe underwent a kidney transplant in June 2023 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and initially appeared to be recovering well. She attended regular appointments at New Cross Hospital to ensure the kidney was settling and her levels remained good. Chloe noticed an obvious bulge on her right side of her stomach (Chloe is extremely petite in size) and began experiencing aches and pain in the pelvic area but this was explained as growing pains and the kidney settling. Additional to this Chloe also developed Type 1 diabetes, something she has never had before and learning to keep insulin levels and work out carbohydrate levels was extremely difficult to get our heads round but Chloe took all this in her stride and kept focused on her health.
Chloe continued with her studies and we agreed to go on a family holiday abroad, something Chloe had not been able to do for a few years and she was awarded a fit to fly and enjoyed her sunshine break in December 2023. Unfortunately after this Chloe began to experience more aches and pains and had a MRI scan to investigate but no abnormalities were detected at this time. Chloe also had multiple admissions to hospital for the severe pain from December 2024 and Chloe had lost mobility due to her right leg and foot being very swollen and heavy to move. Chloe had further MRI scans and the results came back that Chloe had a large mass in her pelvic area (the bulge before was her kidney protruding as the mass had pushed this forward) and a emergency biopsy was needed to investigate this more.
Our worlds fell apart to be told the results from the biopsy was that Chloe has Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder from an Epstein-Barr Virus DLBCL (Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Cancer) and that she would need to begin immediate Chemotherapy. Chloe remained at New Cross Hospital for her first round but after her next scan they felt she needed a more intense Chemotherapy and moved her to RCHOP. Chloe underwent one round and was then transferred to Queen Elizabeth Youth Cancer Ward to continue her treatment as this was a more specialised ward. Chloe has not regained much mobility but the swelling of her right leg has reduced.
Chloe's fourth session of RCHOP was completed on 11th April 2024 however after a subsequent scan, her consultant team made the decision that they would be stopping chemotherapy as the response is not as expected. Chloe had been offered a clinical trial of Atara 302 which would be funded, however there was no suitable product to match Chloe. She has since been offered Cytotoxic T-Cell Therapy via NHS Scotland and the cost of the treatment is £14,000, however this is reliant on a suitable product to match Chloe and we are awaiting confirmation of this. The treatment is delivered regularly over a 4 week period.
Chloe has missed out on so much since 2020, she is not able to go out on girlie days out with her friends, she has had to halt her University Degree, missed many family occasions and holidays and is not living the life of a 21 year old.
Any donations will be utilised towards Treatment Costs, Accommodation, Travel, Days out for Chloe as and when she is able to and general expenses and essentials that she encounters along the way. Any donation no matter how small really will make a difference and we as a family will be forever grateful for everyone's love and support on Chloe's fearless journey, especially to those who have continued to support us throughout this difficult time.
If you aren't able to donate at this time, please pass this along to others in the community, sharing our story is just as important as any donations we gratefully receive!
Chloe is an amazing warrior on this journey and for the most part remains her happy cheerful self, she takes each day as it comes and continues to battle against all that is thrown at her!
Thank you all for your support.
