Baby Girl in NICU : Mom in Need!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Nina. I was pregnant with my beautiful baby girl, Meilani. She was born October 9, 2021 via Emergency C-Section at 40 weeks and 3 days. On October 8th, the father abandoned the two of us without a notice. He looked me in my eyes and said “I’ll be right back,” and never returned. Never even reached out to me. I was so worried while in labor something happened to him. Come to find out he’s hiding. He left us both because he was scared of being a father. When she was born, she wasn’t breathing, she wasn’t moving, she didn’t cry, they called a code blue. Now she is in the NICU. She’s had amazing doctors so far whom covered that she began seizing, she has a brain bleed, she couldn’t breathe on her own, her blood was bleeding too much too fast, on top of just everything else you could think of. She was put on seizure medicine, 2 kinds, Sunday 10/10. They began the cooling for 72 hours in order for her body to focus solely on the brain’s recovery and to prevent even more damage to it. Thankfully, the seizures stopped. Through the night she began to need less oxygen. She went from needing 91% to 4% now. Her heart is beating on its own. Her other organs are looking and doing well. Once the 72 hours of cooling passed, she began to be warmed up. Due to the severity of the seizures, her MRI shows she has damage to all parts of her brain. Which could be permanent, and her only recovery option is time. The severity of how/what is permanent could be a number of things. Vision loss, not being able to be bottle fed, not being able to walk, she’ll have a tougher time growing up, as she grows up more disabilities could occur, this list goes on. If I have to work 5 jobs to take care of her, us, and her medical needs I will. She is my world. I do hope she gets better and wakes up healthy with minimal to no permanent damages at all, any Mom would. At the end of the day, all I want is my daughter. She deserves a good, happy, long life. Just as any other baby/child. Thankfully she doesn’t have anymore seizures because of the medicine, but she has no brain activity. She hasn’t cried, she hasn’t moved on her own, she hasn’t even opened her eyes. She’s trying in some parts. Her sucking is weak and strong here and there, her gag reflex is still very weak. She is having better diaper changes. She responds to touch - which are reflexes - but unfortunately have nothing to do with the brain. She will be stopping one of the seizure medicines soon, in hopes that it wakes her up a little bit, but she’ll be on the EKG again in case the seizures come back. My beautiful baby girl has gone through so much and overcome so much in such a short amount of time. She’s swollen all around her gorgeous face and some limbs. She gives me hope and strength for not just her but for myself as well to my recovery.

I was never raised to depend on anyone. I knew when the father left, she had me and only me. That never scared me. When he left, he left bills. On maternity leave the pay is cut and I’m worried about losing my home by not being able to pay the rent or utilities. I am here, telling you our story seeking help. I understand many families are going through their own kind of hardship. I wanted to share ours because we need the help as well. It takes a lot to be this vulnerable. But I hope our story and her strength inspire others to be just as strong and fight for each other. I tell her all the time that we are stronger together.
