Layla Elizabeth Babayev was born on June 23rd at a dainty 5lbs4oz and is the most beautiful bundle of joy!
However, Layla, Corinna, and Dmitry could use your support, as Layla had a bowel obstruction (ileal astesia) that required surgery on June 25 and a trip to the NICU. The surgery was successful and the outcome was best case scenario, however there have been some repercussions from the procedure, including some apnea like breathing stoppage, a picc line for her to be able to eat while recovering, and a small heart murmur (which testing shows does not appear to be a big issue).
Doctors evaluated the impacts from the removal of the ileocecal valve during surgery and do not believe there will be any long term effects. However, the road to recovery is still a lengthy process, as they need to gradually start feeding her and work her way up before they can leave the NICU. The Babayevs expect to be at the NICU for at least 3 weeks in total.
All things considered, everyone is doing well; Layla appears to be bound and determined to get out of the NICU, crushing timelines and expectations. Corinna and Dmitry are visiting daily, taking every opportunity they can to hold Layla, read her books and bond with their newest addition to the family.
While the exact cost isn't known yet, it is expected that an invasive surgery, a long term stay in the NICU and the cost of travel and meals to visit Layla daily in the NICU will add up quickly. Thankfully, insurance will cover a lot of it (shoutout SAP Concur!), but the out of pocket is still expected to hit the wallet pretty hard. Please consider supporting the Babayevs during this challenging time. We want to do whatever we can to alleviate the challenges of this situation so that they can focus on loving and caring for Layla in her recovery.
Please note, funds raised that exceed these expected costs will go to Layla's college fund.
My name is Jesse Patterson and I have the pleasure of being a long time friend and work colleague to Dmitry and Corinna Babayev. I’m organizing on their behalf so they can focus their energy on Layla :)
