Fundraising for Babel (NYU Short Film)
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Jaap Deinum, and I'm a filmmaker raising funds to make my junior-year short film at NYU, titled Babel.
Set in Manhattan, the film is about a Chinese immigrant seeking to reunite with her daughter through green card sponsorship, but whose values are put to the test as both a mother and sponsorship applicant when she discovers her Guatemalan neighbor is undocumented.

As I grew up perpetually a foreigner in different places and am now an F-1 visa student, I'm compelled by stories of fish out of water—especially underrepresented immigrant narratives. And I'm extremely determined to tell this story and to tell it now, because it uses the inequities of immigration in the United States as a backdrop for a tale of survival and what the desperate do to achieve it. Few are as desperate as a mother deprived of her child.
Funds raised will go towards feeding the cast and crew all 3 days of the shoot, location fees, equipment rentals, transportation, COVID safety supplies, and extensive production design.

Production will take place in mid-April, but the fundraiser will be kept open until early May. Any support you can chip in (no donation is too small!) will get us one step closer to making this a reality and will be welcomed with my and the team's eternal gratitude!
Thank you for taking the time to look this over and for your support!
Much love,
Jaap and the team behind BABEL
