Audrey J. Fetters is a long time USBC, TNBA Bowling member and a member of the ORTC Bowling Club.
Audrey has Multiple Myeloma and is at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington, preparing to undergo a stem cell transplant. Multiple Myeloma is a cancer formed by malignant plasms cells. Plasma cells are found in the bone marrow and are a very important part of the immune system. Multiple Myeloma causes cancer cells to accumulate in the bone marrow where they crowd out healthy blood cells. Once this happens, the immune system becomes extremely compromised and infections begin to plague the body, and the body can no longer resist them. On Sunday, December 25th Audrey will be admitted to the hospital to undergo chemotherapy and if successful will be able to start the stem cell transplant procedure.
While undergoing the stem cell treatment, Audrey must reside in the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (sterile) facility for approximately 2 to 3 months. Her medical insurance will cover the procedure which is in excess of $400,000 but it will not pay for her temporary housing expenses -- the cost is $1800 per month.
We are asking for donations to help pay for her housing and a cargiver to help her while she goes through this lengthy process.
