Pat Harrison's Cancer Treatment

2017 was a rough year for my mom! She lost her job of five years. Three weeks after losing her job her mother, my grandmother, passed from Alzheimer's disease. Seven months later, a week before Christmas, my family received devastating news that my mother had been diagnosed with Stage 2, triple negative, very aggressive breast cancer. Triple negative is an invasive type of cancer that often grows and spreads more quickly than hormone receptor-positive cancers. Its a lack of estrogen in a woman's body making it difficult to fight off oncoming or hidden cancer cells. Not only was it a shock to my mother, but also the entire family considering there are no genetic traits. We were informed that she  immediately had to begin 6 months of the strongest chemotherapy, a week before her birthday in January 2018. 

 We tried to prepare ourselves for how chemo was going to attack her body. Anyone that knows my mom, knows she can't sit still for long and is not a "stay at home" type of person. Therefore, she made it a priority to continue working while receiving chemo. As some of you may know the impact of the drugs leads to  a breakdown of the immune system. In my mother's case, this means after receiving each treatment she is in bed three-four days, lacks severe energy, mobility, and appetite. Due to these effects, she is only able to try and push through  to work 4-10 hours a week.  My mother is a fighter! Always has been, always will be! She truly knows that her help, during the battle, comes from God!
