Andrea's fight against cancer started in 2008 when she was diagnosed with stage iii breast cancer. Four years later in 2012, the cancer became stage iv when spread to her bones. Being the strong-willed person Andrea is, she was determined to live a relatively normal life, despite living with ever-present pain and exhaustion. Her health care providers were working to keep the cancer in her bones under control when the cancer continued to spread to multiple locations in her body in 2017, confirming why her pain levels were at an all time high. Though even with such a serious diagnoses,  she still chose to work full-time and pursue her Doctorate in Eduction (EdD), not wanting to yield to the severity of her health. 
Shortly after the school year in 2018 began, Andrea made a wise decision that after so many years, it was time to give her health and body the attention it needed to rest and heal. This meant taking a medical leave from a community that means so much to her in hopes that she will return to it strong and healthy again.
This was a very difficult and vulnerable decision for Andrea that has caused a significant amount of financial stress in her life. Specifically, her medical leave has caused her healthcare fees to skyrocket. She is responsible for her COBRA payment, out of pocket deductibles, as well as the many unexpected expenses that come up.  These are expenses that is absolutely imperative to her health.
