About Ambivalence
Ambivalence is the second short film from Ultraviolent Productions. Building on the lessons learned from our debut film What God Fears (which you can watch here ), we are now prepared to deliver another compelling and harrowing story, tightly woven into a compact runtime. This screenplay has undergone multiple drafts and reviews by industry professionals, and is ready to be transformed into a film crafted with experience and care.
Ambivalence will challenge audiences to navigate the gray areas of morality. The film thrusts you into the world of private military contractors, who are deeply entrenched in a mission shrouded in mystery. As they navigate this mission, the line between right and wrong becomes increasingly blurred when their loyalty is challenged by individual objectives and self gain. Our characters are not heroes. They’re people.
An Authentic Action Thriller
Ambivalence is not your typical war movie. We emphasize realism, ensuring that our portrayal of combat is visceral, confusing, and uncomfortable. There are no unlimited magazines or invincible characters. Our squad, composed of private security contractors hired by a major pharmaceutical company, is tasked with recovering a lost package from a plane crash. This package, however, has attracted the attention of multiple other firms and corporations, turning the simple recovery mission into a red-hot war zone.
To ensure authenticity, we have consulted multiple veterans for the script and dialogue, and will have prior service military personnel on-site during the film shoots and in post-production. This dedication to realism will make you feel like you are right there with the squad.
Meet the Team
Ultraviolent Productions is spearheaded by Caleb Childers and Jacob Rackley, the duo behind the What God Fears. Caleb is an experienced actor based in Austin, TX, taking on his second writing and directorial venture with Ambivalence. Jacob, praised by industry professionals for his exceptional work as the Director of Photography in What God Fears, continues to bring his storytelling prowess to this new project. Together, Caleb and Jacob form an ambitious and dedicated team, committed to creating an authentic and intense film.
Joining Ultraviolent Productions for Ambivalence are the award-winning filmmakers at Malachite Films. Héctor Reyes and Rachael Lee, both seasoned filmmakers and producers with extensive experience in the Austin, TX film scene, bring their expertise to the project. This collaboration between Ultraviolent Productions and Malachite Films ensures that Ambivalence will be crafted with skill, proper budgeting, and meticulous attention to detail.
While our official cast announcement is forthcoming, we can assure you that we are working with industry professionals, including award-winning actors with feature film experience. To ensure the highest level of realism, our cast will undergo an actor's "boot camp," immersing them in the dynamics of a tight-knit paramilitary fireteam. Our combined cast and crew boast over 50 years of experience in filmmaking, guaranteeing a production we will be proud to share.

- Location Rental: Securing realistic private filming locations to allow for proper set dressing and continuity of our scenes.
- Audio Equipment: Investing in high-quality microphones and audio mixing to ensure a crystal-clear and immersive soundscape.
- Filmmaking Equipment: An extended multi-day shoot in a remote location means we must secure essential gear such as spare batteries, battery banks, and multiple lenses to capture every moment with precision with a crystal clear 6k filmmaking apparatus.
- Lighting Equipment: A mix of both natural lighting and realistic lighting setups will help us capture a realistic and gritty atmosphere throughout the duration of Ambivalence.
- Soundtrack Rights: Licensing impactful soundtrack and audio packs to create an immersive auditory experience on top of our on location sound.
- Authentic Military Costumes and Props: Providing our cast with realistic military attire, weapons, and gear to maintain realism and authenticity in their combat zone environment.
- SFX Teams: Hiring professional makeup artists and special effects experts to create realistic combat wounds and effects with squib packs.
- Provisions for Cast and Crew: Ensuring our team is well-fed and taken care of during our demanding filming schedule.
- VFX: Hiring of professional visual effects artists to create industry-standard muzzle flashes and CGI for technologically demanding scenes, this will enhance visual impact to pair with our authentic soundscape.
- Professional Color Grading and Editing: Employing expert color grading and video editing to polish the final product and deliver a visually stunning film.
