Amber Partida is the inaugural Gwen Ifill Fellow at the PBS NewsHour. A first-generation college student, Amber's determination is unmatched. But life has thrown her another adversity.
Amber's mother was recently diagnosed with stage four cancer that doctors do not think is curable. The diagnosis is particularly difficult given that Amber's father passed away two years ago from brain cancer.
Amber's mother does have insurance, but the family will still have financial burdens due to medical expenses. Amber has three siblings, including one who is still in middle school and another in college. She also has one semester of college to finish her journalism degree and will be required to start paying back her student loans when she graduates.
As the NewsHour family, we would like to support Amber and her family in any way we can.
