All my life, I have heard about people who travel to 3rd world countries to offer aid. Never in a million years did I think that I would ever have the opportunity to be one of those people. My name is Alicia Guierro and I am heading to Nakuru, Africa to offer hope to those who have very little of it.
When my husband, Jimmy, went on this mission trip in 2023, neither of us had any idea what to expect. We had heard the stories from other members of our church but couldn't truly comprehend the enormity of this mission. My husband's life was changed in Africa. He came home a different person, so full of gratitude and gratefulness for everything we have. I knew that I had to be next to go.
Many of the people that I will be meeting have no idea what it is like to have a solid roof over their head, cold running water, three meals a day; two or even one. Their days aren't spent playing video games or watching sports on TV; rather, they are just trying to survive. Many are forced to sell their bodies for food or end up in prison for an inability to pay a fine. Children, even infants and toddlers, are left alone to fend for themselves. Often times, it is the older children, as young as 8 years old, who become the "mothers", caring for the younger children.
The crazy part is, they have more joy than any American you can find walking down the street who has everything they need. How can this be? It's simple... missionaries from around the world have introduced them to their King and Savior, Jesus Christ, and because they once had nothing (and I mean nothing) and now have a friend, a Father, a companion that offers them peace, love, and eternal life; they are full of His joy which is the fullness of joy and His peace which is the peace that surpasses all understanding. They were empty, not full of what the world offers, and so able to BE filled with His love and mercy.
I am so honored to be a part of the worldwide efforts to be the hands and feet of Jesus. I will be heading to Africa in August to provide food, access to clean water, clothing, toiletries, toys, and most of all, love and hope. You can be a part of these efforts, as well, by assisting me with the finances I will need to get there. The estimated total cost of the 10-day trip, which includes airfare, lodging, and two meals a day, is $3000.
Please consider supporting me in this endeavor by even a small donation. Every little bit helps.
