Alby’s Fight: Hope & Help

My name is Abbi & I am Albys daughter. I decided to create this go fund me in hopes that our friends, family and community are able to Support him in any way.

If you know Alby at all then you know how much he helps and supports those around him, always going out of his way to help others, I would love to show him that all those people are around supporting him when he most needs it

As some of you may already know Alby, has been in and out of hospital for a few years now, first with his stroke, then multiple surgeries to help the function of his heart and lungs, and most recently he has been Diagnosed with Amyloidosis.

Amyloidosis is a rare disease that occurs when a protein called amyloid builds up in organs and stops them from working, Currently the disease has spread to his heart and bowel, meaning he now has stage 4 AL Amyloidosis - the worst case scenario.

In August the doctors had disguised Alby with this and informed us that the disease is unfortunately terminal, although chemotherapy is being used to treat the disease, it is not cure.

Alby has spent the last 12 weeks between the Whyalla and Adelaide hospital, with his most recent admission seeing him not leave the hospital in 6 weeks. Here he is undergoing regular treatment along with multiple other health issues arising during this time, most recently Alby had to go a life altering surgery when his bowel perforated and a colostomy bag was put in place.

We are hoping that Alby is coming home soon where he can be more comfortable, however in the meantime his family and wife (Joylene) have had to travel to Adelaide weekly to be with Alby so he is not facing this illness alone.

We have also been making some in home adjustments for when he is ready to come home. As you can understand, financially this is not easy, combined with the ongoing travel costs to and from Adelaide regularity, our family are feeling the pinch.
