Alanah's Master's Degree Money for MICA

Donation protected
UPDATE: There are just about 14 weeks left of school and I've received my invoice for my final semester in the Social Design program at MICA in the amount of $7,145. Together in the first stretch of this fundraiser, we raised over 9k together! The program itself has a total of $24,860 so scholarships, grants and paychecks helped chipped away at this grand total too. In order to reach my goal of $14,920, we need to raise $5,705. I know times are hard for a lot of folks in and out of my network and so I do not take the support lightly!

OLDER UPDATE: Social Design program is estimated at a total of $24,860. I had a balance due on August 3rd, 2020, and I raised a little over $8k on here thanks to my supportive community of friends, family, community, and extended network in Baltimore beyond!!!

Hey! My name is Alanah Nichole Davis and I'm a single Black, mother, artist, consultant, and future student living in Baltimore, MD. I'm best known for my contributions to the arts, culture, and social change landscape of Baltimore, MD.  I've been accepted to Maryland Institute College of Art and started attending beginning in the Fall  of 2020! I am very excited and honored to be pursuing my Masters in Social Design and am ready to start my collegiate journey. Yes, start because I never went to Undergrad. After being expelled from Baltimore schools at the very young age of 16 I've worked extremely hard as a Black child and now woman in every field I've touched to gain a placement, respect, and advancement. My application and admittance to MICA were based on my cumulative body of work in my community of Baltimore. This was no easy feat. I could not have done it without many of you who may be reading this right now. Whether we've interacted directly through work or indirectly through social media or have passed each other at an event. Know that whether you're able to give or not you all have already given me so much.

A large part of my purpose in life is to tackle complex human issues and place social issues as the priority by gathering people, writing, and uplifting messages near and dear to my heart. I am financially doing OK, but I'm not independently wealthy and tuition at MICA for this one-year program is wildly expensive. A huge part of me knows that I exist in margins based on where I come from, the color of my skin and that loans can cause crippling debt (yikes) that I absolutely do not need as a Black woman who takes care of her children and mother financially on her own.

Every donation counts, I never would've imagined when I left the Superintendents office in 2008 and went off to get my GED that I'd ever been remotely near the opportunity to get my Master's degree. At such a time as this with civil unrest and COVID-19 running rampant. I'm just grateful to have come so far and am asking for your guys' continued help and belief in the great well rounded, educated and community uplifted woman I've become and will continue to become.

Love, Alanah
